So Conner did NOT receive his ultrasound or his hearing test today. (Oh, and by the way, I found out this evening that every baby that is in the NICU for more than 5 days has to have a hearing test done. It's 'what they do.') Why? Because the person that was supposed to do it was sick. (There's only ONE person?)
Conner is now demand feeding - he wakes up about every 2.5 hours, is very alert, and drinks like crazy. He's a pro! He drank 64cc's when I fed him this evening, and that was the most he'd had (at a time) all day.
The IV is now completely out of his arm. Yesterday they just had it stopped, but it was still there. Today it's gone. YAY.
Remember that insulin test?? Yeah. Me too. Well it was supposed to be sent to another hospital to be tested...and by the time it was finally sent off, the blood clotted, and now they can't use it. GRR. And they can't really do another test now, because he's on the Diazoxide medication to bring his insulin levels down.
Tomorrow the doctor will decide whether or not they want to send Conner home with the Diazoxide or not. If we go home with the medication, we will have to come back with Conner for more blood work. If they decide they want to take him off of the medication first, then Conner has to stay in the hospital even longer, and they will continue to monitor his blood sugar levels and see if they stabilize. I'm so so frustrated. Keep him on the medication!!! It's helping! I WANT TO TAKE MY BABY HOME!
**breathe in....breathe out**
Also (since I'm already venting), we had a ridiculous nurse today who treated me like I didn't know what I was doing. She didn't even let me bathe my own baby. "I'll do it this time, to show you how it's done, and then maybe next time you can do it." And the whole time she was saying stuff like, "You don't ever want to leave your baby in the tub to answer the phone or something. When you're bathing your baby, you have to just ignore everything else. Okay? Make sure you don't put q-tips in his ears, either."....Oh really? I had NO idea. Thank you for that wonderfully stupid input.
BLAH.
I want to take my baby home. The end.
(OH and I start IVIG tomorrow...I'll post more about that later)
