My baby boy is here!!
Conner Allen Friesen was born at 2:49 PM on March 22. He weighed in at 5 lbs 7 oz and was 19.5'' long.
And he's SO CUTE.
He's also in the NICU at St. Boniface Hospital. :(
I will eventually post the story of how he got here (emergency induction) and about the crazy (and super lame) nursing staff that I had before I went into labour and all that jazz, but right now I need to write an update on my little boy.
Conner is doing really well. After battling with blood sugars and IV and photo therapy lights, he is beginning to stabilize. His blood sugar levels have been very good the last couple of days, which means that they can slowly reduce the amount of sugar he gets through IV and begin to increase his food intake.
On Monday when I last saw Conner, his IV was running at 10.8 - and it is now running at 5.5!! It was also a struggle for him to eat 13 cc's of food, and today he was downing 41cc's without a problem. YAY!! Conner's IV came out of his arm last night - so they had to put it into his forehead today. Poor guy. The nurse told us that if his blood sugar levels stay good, they can continue to reduce his IV fluids by 15%...which means they would only have to do that 2 more times before the IV can come out. Then he just needs to continue to be good for a day or 2 and he can COME HOME. Oh my goodness. The nurse figured early next week, hopefully.
I brought myself to the ER yesterday. Turns out I still have pretty bad hypertension - it just hasn't gone away since pregnancy. So they upped my medication - hopefully that helps. Until then, I'm supposed to rest and try to not stress out about stuff. Ha. Right. I have a baby in the NICU, a 3 year old at home, a neurologist that says I need to start my MS medication ASAP, and a nurse to phone to figure out a time for her to come train me on the injection treatments, and IVIG is supposed to be waiting for me at the hospital in Steinbach. My life is soooooo not stressful. Oh and I have a husband in there somewhere too (love you Rob).
Hopefully Conner can come home soon. I will keep you updated...(and I'll take more pictures today so that I have some good ones to post.)
