I'm feeling a little sentimental today.
Last year on December 31st, I went into labor. I was chatting online with my friend Tracy and was telling her how I was feeling and she was SURE that it was the real thing - I was going to have a baby! I thought it was fake. It didn't seem real.
Later that evening after we had eaten supper, I was lying on the couch, timing my contractions. Rob kept asking me how far apart they were. I said "about 7 minutes". He said we better get to the hospital. Keep in mind I still thought it was fake and that the doctors would send me home as soon as we got to the hospital.
We packed up a bag and headed out the door. I told Rob to just relax and take it easy on the highway (it was a little icy) and kept telling him that they were just going to send me home. This can't be real.
WELL
By the time we got from Grunthal to Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach (about a 20 minute drive) my contractions were less than 2 minutes apart.
And that's how they stayed for 16 hours. Sounds like fun, eh?
Long story short, they FINALLY broke my water, and after 2 hours of pushing....
Isaiah Robert Friesen was finally born on January 1, 2009, weighing in at a whopping 10 pounds, 2 ounces, and was an incredible 22 3/4 inches long.
Yep, January 1st, making him the New Years Baby for Southeastern Manitoba. Which also meant having a not-so-lovely picture of me slapped on the internet for the entire world to see (I JUST had a baby!) and having the radio station and newspaper come and talk to me. "How do you feel?", "Well, I had a baby a few hours ago, so I'm pretty awesome, how are you?"
And now that big baby is going to be one tomorrow. He's still big. And I love him so much!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISAIAH!
